Rubio Quips Trump Would Be Good at Yoga: 'He's Very Flexible, So You Never Know'

March 3, 2016

Sen. Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) quipped that Donald Trump would be good at yoga considering his allegedly flexible stance on immigration Thursday at the Fox News Republican Debate.

Senator Ted Cruz and Rubio tag-teamed a line of witticisms aimed at Trump that culminated in Rubio’s remark.

"You know, Donald has a tenuous relationship with the truth," Cruz said after Trump accused him of supporting the nomination of Chief Supreme Court Justice John Roberts. "I wrote one op-ed supporting President Bush's nomination after he made it. I would not have made that nomination. But let me point out – "

Trump kept interrupting Cruz until Cruz attempted to quiet him.

"That is not what you said in the op-ed –" Trump said.

"Donald, please, I know it's hard not to interrupt, but try," Cruz said.

"Yeah, I know, but it’s not what you said in the op-ed," Trump said.

Cruz then began to instruct Trump in breathing exercises.

"Breathe, breathe, breathe," Cruz said.

"Lyin’ Ted," Trump said.

Cruz cheered him on.

"You can do it. You can breathe," Cruz said.

"I’ll breathe, I’ll breathe," Trump said.

"I know it's hard. I know it's hard, but just –" Cruz said.

Just then Rubio asked whether he could interrupt the yoga session to answer a question.

"When they're done with the yoga, can I answer a question?" Rubio said.

Moderator Megyn Kelly snickered into her microphone.

"You cannot – I really hope that we don't see yoga on this stage," Cruz said.

"Well he’s very flexible, so you never know," Rubio said, referring to New York Times transcripts that show Trump softening his hardline stance on immigration.

Trump refused to release the transcripts in the debate Thursday, citing the importance of maintaining the integrity of off-the-record interviews.
