The troops who serve in the United States military prove year after year they deserve to be Washington Free Beacon men of the year.

There are about 200,000 brave men and women deployed in more than 150 countries who work tirelessly to protect the United States, defeat America's enemies, and keep the fighting off our shores. And they have proven to be the most devastatingly effective military force in the world.

America's enemies are on the run. This year, our armed forces eliminated al Qaeda leader Hamza bin Laden, the son of 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden. And they didn't stop there. A month later, U.S. troops cornered ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who took the coward's way out and blew himself up rather than face American justice.

The victories were not without sacrifice. Thirty-four brave men and women gave their lives this year to ensure their families and fellow citizens can be safe and free.

With this year being no different than last, we salute our armed forces for working to ensure America remains a beacon of freedom and force for good in this world. We are honored to name the American troops Washington Free Beacon men of the year.
