Former president Donald Trump during a New Hampshire campaign rally on Thursday dragged President Joe Biden for his video campaign launch this week, suggesting the pre-recorded announcement was intended to conceal Biden's frequent displays of confusion during live speeches.
"You’d think at least one time he’d get up and say, ‘I’m running for president, where am I going, where the hell am I going, I want to get out,’" Trump mocked, walking around and pretending to be lost and confused. Biden frequently is caught on video searching for exits and appearing confused when he ends speeches.
Trump ridiculed the president for announcing his reelection bid in a video rather than during a live event.
"A pre-packaged video that took supposedly seven takes to get it right, if right is what you want to call it," Trump said.
Polls show Trump is the frontrunner in the Republican primary, with likely candidate Governor Ron DeSantis (R., Fla.) in second place. The former president faces legal troubles in New York, where he’s set to stand trial next year on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.
Trump’s mockery comes as many in Biden’s own party worry about his ability to serve a second term. A Friday report showed that Biden works few hours and often takes off weekends.
The Washington Post in recent weeks interviewed Democratic voters who said the president's frequent verbal slip-ups and physical stumbles are raising questions about whether he should run for a second term.
Biden faces the lowest support from within his own party for a second term among modern presidents.
Just 38 percent of Democrats said the party should nominate Biden for reelection, compared with 57 percent who want to find another plausible candidate, according to an average of polls conducted throughout his first term published by the Post on Monday. Trump had 70 percent of the Republican Party's support for a reelection bid.
