Panelists on CNN's "Inside Politics" Tuesday said Democrats were "nervous" about their political hopes in 2018 and are united only in their opposition to President Donald Trump.
They reacted to Sen. Amy Klobuchar's (D., Minn.) statement Tuesday that voters are more interested in the economy and health care than in the Russia investigation.
Host John King asked about the significance of her statement in the context of being successful in November, as Democrats try to win back Congress in what should be a favorable year since they are out of the White House.
New York Times reporter Carl Hulse said it was partly about Klobuchar, a potential 2020 White House contender, differentiating herself from other progressive Democrats, but it was also reminding her party not to take victory for granted.
"'Hey, this can't be just totally about Trump. We have to do some other things,'" Hulse said. "They're seeing Trump's numbers go up a little bit. They're nervous right now, maybe that the environment isn't going to be quite what they thought it was going to be, and I think that's a warning from her."
Politico reporter Eliana Johnson said she'd heard that before from Democrats.
"I haven't heard anything from them that's not anti-Trump," she said.
"That's the only thing that unites them as a party right now," Bloomberg reporter Sahil Kapur said.
Kapur said the Russia investigation and personal attacks on Trump did not move voters.
