'Over-Rated' Plagiarist, Sexual Predator to Star at New Republic Gala

October 2, 2014

Though no longer relevant, the New Republic is celebrating its 100th year of publication next month at a black-tie gala in Washington, D.C. Bill Clinton, a known sexual predator who presided over the Rwandan genocide, will keynote the event. Co-hosts include Aaron Sorkin, Joe Scarborough, and former New Republic intern Fareed Zakaria.

Zakaria has come under fire in recent months for repeated instances of plagiarism, including the very first article he published in the New Republic. In 2011, the magazine’s editors ranked Zakaria among Washington’s "most over-rated thinkers." They didn't hold back:

Awkward.

It is unclear if Sean Eldridge, entitled spouse of New Republic editor-in-chief Chris Hughes, will attend the gala, which takes place soon after the midterm elections. Eldridge is running for Congress in New York, and in a just world, he would lose by at least 30 points. He may succeed in cutting that margin to 20 points, which is still pretty embarrassing. Would you really want to put on a tuxedo after failing so badly?
