David Hogg, a 17-year-old high school senior who survived last month's mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on Wednesday night called for supporters to boycott Fox News host Laura Ingraham's advertisers after she shared an article about four colleges to which he applied rejecting him.
Ingraham earlier in the day tweeted out a Daily Wire story reporting that four different campuses in the University of California school system—UC Los Angeles, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Irvine—all turned Hogg down.
"David Hogg Rejected By Four Colleges To Which He Applied and whines about it," Ingraham wrote, along with a link to the article. "(Dinged by UCLA with a 4.1 GPA...totally predictable given acceptance rates.)"

Hogg, who helped organize last weekend's March for Our Lives protests and has castigated Republicans and gun-rights activists in the weeks after the mass shooting, responded to Ingraham's tweet by asking who her biggest advertisers are. He tweeted again shortly afterward, listing what are purportedly her top 12 advertisers.
"Soooo @IngrahamAngle what are your biggest advertisers ... Asking for a friend. #BoycottIngramAdverts," Hogg tweeted. "Working on a list rn !"

Hogg's attempt at a boycott campaign got the attention of Media Matters for America president Angelo Carusone, who has been instrumental in targeting Fox News host Sean Hannity's advertisers. Hogg's tweet prompted Carusone to warn him about the importance of being "careful with advertiser lists unless you really know the source they came from and how they compiled [sic]."
"Pulling accurate and up-to-date advertiser info is a big effort...and it's important that you always work from accurate and thorough sources," he wrote.
Just a general word of caution: be careful with advertiser lists unless you really know the source they came from and how they compiled. Pulling accurate and up-to-date advertiser info is a big effort...and it's important that you always work from accurate and thorough sources.

Carusone also told Hogg that the two advertisers with the "strongest association" are Bayer US and Liberty Mutual.

UPDATE: 3:03 P.M.: Ingraham apologized on her Twitter account for her earlier statement about Hogg.
Any student should be proud of a 4.2 GPA —incl. @DavidHogg111. On reflection, in the spirit of Holy Week, I apologize for any upset or hurt my tweet caused him or any of the brave victims of Parkland. For the record, I believe my show was the first to feature David...(1/2)
