President Donald Trump warned Congress he did not want to be "disappointed" by it on tax reform during a speech in Missouri on Wednesday.
Pitching his broad vision of lower taxes, a simpler system, and sustained economic growth, Trump said it was a "once-in-a-generation" opportunity to reform taxes.
"So this is our once-in-a-generation opportunity to deliver real tax reform for everyday, hardworking Americans, and I am fully committed to working with Congress to get this job done, and I don't want to be disappointed by Congress, do you understand me?" Trump said to cheers. "Do you understand?"
The president has been highly critical of Congress, particularly Senate Republicans, for failing to pass a repeal of Obamacare this summer.
As he made his remarks, Trump chuckled to himself.
"I think Congress is going to make a comeback. I hope so," Trump said. "Tell you what, the United States is counting on it."
Trump also touted the report from Wednesday that the U.S. enjoyed 3.0 percent growth in gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2017, the best quarter since 2015.
"If we achieve sustained, three-percent growth, that means 12 million new jobs and $10 trillion of new economic activity over the next decade. That's some numbers," he said. "And I happen to be one that thinks we can go much higher than three percent. There's no reason why we shouldn't."
