Rep. Ruben Gallego (D., Ariz.) said Friday that House Speaker Paul Ryan (R., Wis.) has "absolutely no morals" on health care, and asserted because Republicans' health care bill would "kill people," Democrats should not be civil with them.
Gallego was appearing on CNN with host Brianna Keilar, who asked the congressman about comments he made the prior day on the American Health Care Act, the House Republicans' plan to replace Obamacare.
"Where's the score?" Gallego shouted Thursday as Ryan was speaking on the floor of the House of Representatives. The Arizona Democrat was referring to the fact that the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) did not score the AHCA before the House passed the bill.
Keilar asked if Gallego regretted interrupting Ryan.
The Arizona Democrat first argued that Republicans' were trying to push the bill forward before the CBO score came out. He then accused the GOP of producing a plan that would kill Americans.
"This is a new time in politics where people are just blatantly lying and essentially producing policies that are going to kill people," Gallego said. "So I think the old time of civility needs to go until we actually go back to the rules."
The congressman went on to claim that Paul Ryan has "absolutely no morals" on the issue of health care, arguing he cares more about giving the rich a tax cut than lowering health care costs for Americans.
"Paul Ryan has absolutely no morals when it comes to what he hopes to bring in terms of health insurance," Gallego said. "He is more focused on making sure that the top one percent gets their tax cut than to make sure that Americans have lower premiums and more coverage."
"You know, we've heard in politics all the time that you're robbing Peter to pay Paul. In this instance, we are essentially going to be killing Peter to make sure that Paul gets his tax cut," Gallego added.
