Joe Scarborough called out President Obama on Wednesday morning for allowing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to "use weapons of mass destruction" in the Syrian civil war, claiming history will judge the president "harshly for allowing this holocaust to move forward."
MSNBC's Morning Joe was discussing President-elect Donald Trump's foreign policy vision and the destruction of Aleppo, Syria, where pro-Assad forces have retaken most of the city and reportedly committed atrocities against civilians.
A ceasefire deal brokered by Russia and Turkey to stop the violence in Aleppo appeared to fall through Wednesday morning amid renewed fighting. Evacuations from the city were supposed to commence but buses meant to rescue residents were waved when the violence restarted after less than a day.
Co-host Mika Brzezinski said she wants to know how Trump feels about the graphic, violent images coming out of Aleppo.
"We are witnessing a holocaust," Brzezinski said. "At what point are we going to hear from people who are leading this country from here on out?"
Scarborough jumped in the conversation, adding, "It's no longer good enough for the United States presidents or president-elects to say this is not our problem."
Scarborough then compared Obama's lack of action in Aleppo to George W. Bush's decisions going into the Iraq War.
"History will judge George W. Bush harshly for the decisions he made going into the Iraq War. History will judge Barack Obama equally as harshly for allowing this holocaust to move forward," Scarborough said. "Barack Obama allowed Assad to use weapons of mass destruction, and then he did nothing. He cowered in the corner while a holocaust has continued."
