President Donald Trump announced Sunday that he is postponing his "fake news awards" by over a week, saying interest in them had exceeded his expectations.
Trump tweeted that the awards, which he originally said would take place on Monday at 5 p.m., are being pushed back to next Wednesday, Jan. 17.
"The Fake News Awards, those going to the most corrupt and biased of the Mainstream Media, will be presented to the losers on Wednesday, January 17, rather than this coming Monday," Trump wrote. "The interest in, and importance of, these awards is far greater than anyone could have anticipated!"

Trump initially announced on Twitter last Tuesday that he would give the awards to the "most dishonest and corrupt media" for "dishonesty and bad reporting in various categories."

Since Trump's initial tweet, late-night talk show hosts have been competing to earn his fake news awards.
CBS' Stephen Colbert of "The Late Show," Comedy Central's Trevor Noah of "The Daily Show," and TBS' Samantha Bee of "Full Frontal" all tweeted out satirical "for your consideration" advertisements on Twitter in an effort to nab a "fakie."
During his first year in office, Trump repeatedly attacked mainstream media outlets such as CNN, MSNBC, and the New York Times, arguing they have reported fake news about him and ignored his accomplishments as president.
