Kaine: 'I Do Have a Slightly Goofy Quality'

July 29, 2016

Democratic vice-presidential nominee Sen. Tim Kaine (D., Va.) said Friday that he has a "slightly goofy quality" that's easy to make fun of, before closing his interview with a true "Dad" joke about harmonicas.

At the conclusion of their lengthy interview, CNN host Alisyn Camerota asked Kaine how he felt about the series of Dad jokes he'd inspired with his hokey, amiable demeanor during the Democratic National Convention.

Kaine said he thought the jokes were hilarious.

"I guess I've got to acknowledge I do have a slightly goofy quality," Kaine said. "Some find it endearing, and some find it annoying. I can't make myself do it or undo it. It's just kind of who I am, but anyway, that others picked up on it and are ribbing me about it a little bit, I don't think that's all bad."

He also addressed his reported love of harmonicas. According to him, he carries six in his briefcase with him at all time.

"I have a feeling I will be inflicting some harmonica-playing on the American public," he said.

Camerota joked the country should be warned he would be hitting the road soon with his instrument in tow.

"And Alisyn, I'll tell you, just to tell the American public, if you've never learned to play an instrument, you want to learn one, the harmonica. It's OK to suck," Kaine said. "In fact, that's how you make half the notes."

"OK, Dad," Camerota said, laughing at the groan-worthy joke.
