Continetti: Trump 'Thrives on Chaos'

February 3, 2017

Washington Free Beacon editor in chief Matthew Continetti appeared Thursday on MSNBC's "Meet the Press Daily" and said that President Donald Trump thrives off of chaos.

Host Chuck Todd asked Continetti if the media should have taken Trump literally.

"In paying attention to what he was saying he was going to do, and I think during the primary, right, Jeb Bush called him the 'chaos candidate,'" Continetti said. "He thrives on it. He likes chaos."

"I would say there are a lot of New York real estate types and banking types who know exactly what the prime minister of Australia and the president of Mexico are dealing with because this is Trump's style," Continetti continued. "He'll go big in that first call, in that first meeting. He's wanting to establish his dominance and then, maybe, he'll ratchet it back because everything is transactional."

Continetti also said that the fate of the Republican Party is tied to Trump's presidency.

When talking about Uber CEO Travis Kalanick pulling out of Trump's business advisory council, Continetti raised an interesting point about using the ride service.

"I do have to point out, and I was not known as a supporter of Donald Trump during the primary, but every single Uber driver I've had in Washington, D.C. in the last year and a half has been pro-Trump, and it comes out Independent–I don't talk politics while I'm in Uber, but it will come out," Continetti said. "So, I think that there might be a divergence here between the CEOs and a lot of the drivers."
