Stephanopoulos Rescues Hillary Clinton From Answering Awkward Question About Bill

April 21, 2016

Old habits die hard.

Former Bill Clinton communications director-turned-ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos jumped in Thursday to say time had run out when Hillary Clinton was asked about her husband's "most annoying habit."

Stephanopoulos, along with Robin Roberts, co-moderated a Good Morning America town hall for Clinton.

"What would you say is Bill's most annoying habit?" a woman asked.

Clinton asked the young woman to repeat her question.

"Oh my gosh, where do we start? How long do we have?" Clinton asked. "Let's see."

The crowd laughed, and what sounded like Roberts, who's done gushing interviews with Clinton in the past, let out an "Oooooohhh."

"OK, if you don't tell anybody ... no matter how tired he is, he always feels like he has to read before he falls asleep," Clinton said. "So, he used to have a light on—"

"You're going to get saved by the bell here," Stephanopoulos said. "We're out of time. We'll be right back."

ABC played the music to signal the end of the segment, and Clinton finished the heartwarming anecdote by saying she had to go turn the light off on the other side of the bed once Bill fell asleep.

Stephanopoulos, in addition to being a former employee of the Clinton White House, is a donor to the Clinton Foundation. He did not disclose his conflict of interest until a report by the Washington Free Beacon revealing the donation.

Clinton did the town hall on the heels of a resounding victory in the New York primary over Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), and she appears headed for the Democratic presidential nomination.
