Spicer on Comey Tape Questions: ‘It’s Possible We’ll Have an Answer to That at the End of the Week’

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Monday it is possible that the White House will have an answer this week as to whether there are tapes of conservations between President Donald Trump and former FBI Director James Comey.

Spicer told reporters at an off-camera, no-audio briefing that the White House might have answers on whether the tapes exist.

"It's possible we will have an answer to that at the end of the week," Spicer said, according to CNN reporter Jim Acosta.

A few days after Trump fired Comey last month, the president tweeted that Comey better "hope" there are no tapes of their conversations.

The president's tweet prompted reporters to ask Trump and his administration if there were tapes. In a press conference in the White House Rose Garden earlier this month, Trump assured reporters that he would tell them about the tapes in a "very short period of time."

"I'll tell you about it over a very short period of time," Trump said.

The Secret Service released a statement on June 12 saying it had no possession of any recordings or transcripts from the White House.
