Vice President Joe Biden is headlining a fundraiser for embattled Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D., Fla.) in Florida this weekend.
The donor event will be hosted at the home of major Democratic donors Stephen and Sabine Bittel Sunday. Maximum contributions of $2,700 will be accepted, Politico reported. All donors will be able to pose with Biden for a photo-op.
Attendees can also pay $10,000 to be designated as a co-host and given access to a private reception.
The fundraiser is sure to outrage supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) who are attempting to oust Wasserman Schultz as DNC chair because of her alleged biased toward presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton during the presidential primary process.
Wasserman Schultz faces a primary contest in August to preserve her Florida congressional seat against Tim Canova.
Sanders endorsed Canova last month, announcing that if he were elected to the White House he would terminate Wasserman Schultz’s chairmanship.
Biden’s fundraising efforts on behalf of the DNC chair run counter to Sanders’ efforts and could elevate tensions between the Democratic Party’s establishment and progressive factions.
Hours after President Obama endorsed Clinton for president Thursday, Biden threw his weight behind the former secretary of state.
Biden’s trip arrived a week after Obama returned from a Miami fundraiser in support of the DNC. The president pressed Democrats to remain supportive of Wasserman Schultz through the November election.
