Brit Hume said on Fox News Sunday that since the news of Hillary Clinton's private server broke in March of 2015 that her favorability numbers have been on the decline.
Following the release of the State Department's Inspector General report that showed Clinton had violated the law by using her personal server, Hume said that this report helped to solidify the public's opinion that Clinton could not be trusted.
"I think this cements in place the notion that she cannot be trusted and it's just one more step in that direction," he said.
A Fox News poll showed the change between Clinton's favorability ratings between March 2015 and March 2016. In 2015, her favorability was at 47 percent. In 2016, there was a 10 percent decline.
USA Today's Susan Page called Clinton's issues with being viewed as dishonest and untrustworthy as the Achille's heel of her campaign.
"It's an issue she really needs to figure out a way to address, to at least improve those numbers some degree," Page said.
She also said that while the IG report was critical of Clinton, it did not add any new damage.
"While the Inspector General's report is very critical I don't think it does any new damage to Hillary Clinton. An FBI conclusion, that was more serious could do some more serious damage to her," Page said.
Clinton has said repeatedly in interviews that her private email address and server were "above board." More recently though, she and her surrogates have used Colin Powell's actions during his time as Secretary of State as a defense.
Page said that using Powell as a defense does not get her off the hook, since Powell is not running for president.
"Number one, I think there are some differences in the context and number two, he's not running for anything," Page said.
