Bredesen Supporter Jason Isbell: Blackburn Would Be 'More Dangerous' Than Roy Moore

October 26, 2018

Singer-songwriter Jason Isbell, who supports Phil Bredesen for Senate in Tennessee, told MSNBC he thinks Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R., Tenn.) would be "more dangerous" than Roy Moore. Moore was the Republican nominee for Senate in Alabama's special election last year, and he lost to Democratic nominee Doug Jones after sexual misconduct allegations emerged.

"When we were working in Alabama with [Democratic nominee] Doug Jones a few months ago, we were terrified because there was a lot at stake, and Roy Moore – I just think that it shouldn't have gotten to the point where it was close," Isbell told reporter Cal Perry. "And I think the fact that people were able to mobilize and get out and vote and make sure that Roy Moore didn't wind up in that position, I think that was a good idea. And I think it really said something about Alabama that made me proud."

"But I'll tell you this: as bad as Roy Moore would have been, I think Marsha Blackburn may be more dangerous as a politician, because she's not as crazy as Roy Moore, and she can actually convince people to listen to her. But I don't think she's working for the right reasons, and I don't think she wants to help people as much as she wants to help herself."

Isbell is not the first singer to speak publicly on behalf of Bredesen. Singer Taylor Swift endorsed Bredesen in an Instagram post earlier this month, writing that Blackburn's voting record "appalls and terrifies" her.

Blackburn holds a 6.5 point lead over Bredesen in the RealClearPolitics polling average, and her lead has grown steadily over the past month.
