The man who claimed to be Brian Williams’ pilot on his now-infamous 2003 Iraq trip is walking back his story.
Rich Krell said that he piloted the plane that Williams was on when the plane came under light artillery fire--but not an RPG attack.
The statement came after soldiers on the trip called Williams out for lying about the RPG incident and for irregularities in his account of the story.
On Friday, Krell similarly said that he misremembered the events.
"The information I gave you was true based on my memories, but at this point, I am questioning my memories," Krell told CNN reporter Brian Steller.
It now appears that Williams was even farther away from the RPG attack than he admitted, drawing even more questions about his integrity and suspect other stories, such as some from Hurricane Katrina, could also have been embellished.
"This makes the situation worse for Brian Williams because soldiers are coming out of newspaper stories and saying that Brian Williams was nowhere near the scene of this Iraq attack," Steller said.
