A new statewide ad from David Perdue, Democratic Senate candidate Michelle Nunn's opponent, connects Nunn's time as CEO of an organization that gave grants to a Hamas-tied group and her support for amnesty.
"Michelle Nunn's own plan says she funded organizations linked to terrorists," the ad says. "She's for amnesty, while terrorism experts say our border breakdown could provide an entry for groups like ISIS."
The plan the ad refers to was uncovered in July by the National Review and shows that under Michelle Nunn's leadership, the group Points of Light validated Islamic Relief USA as a viable option for donations.
That organization is directly connected to Islamic Relief Worldwide, which has ties to terrorist group Hamas and has been banned from Israel, as the country views it as a "source of funds for Hamas."
A former Israeli intelligence official said that Islamic Relief Worldwide has terrorist ties beyond Hamas.
"Islamic Relief Worldwide’s country director in Palestine, Muneed Abugazaleh, met in April 2012 with Dr. Omar Shalah, a leader of the terror group Islamic Jihad and of the Riyad al-Saleheen Charitable Society, which is affiliated with the group," the official told the National Review.
Islamic Relief USA received "$33,000 from individual donors through the Points of Light-validated system," the Atlanta Journal-Consitution reported.
"Michelle Nunn's own campaign plan highlights serious concerns about her group's association with terrorist-linked organizations," a Perdue campaign spokesman said. "The people of Georgia will have to decide if that's who they want representing them in the U.S. Senate."
The Perdue campaign links Nunn's terror-funding scandal with her support for immigration reform that would give amnesty to those who entered the country illegally.
"Given the current threats to our homeland, Georgians want a Senator who will protect our borders," Perdue said. "Michelle Nunn supports amnesty and will help President Obama and Harry Reid advance their open border policies."
"Securing our borders and enforcing existing laws is a matter of national security and must remain our top priority."
