Proterra, the electric vehicle maker frequently promoted by President Joe Biden, has declared bankruptcy. Since taking office, Biden and his administration lauded the company, whose buses frequently failed to stay on the road. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm held hundreds of thousands of shares in Proterra, which she eventually sold after facing accusations of a conflict of interest.
On a virtual tour of Proterra's Greenville, S.C., facility in 2021, Biden told an employee, "Right now we're running way behind China, but you guys are getting us in the game."
