Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters (Calif.) on Friday tweeted at Attorney General Jeff Sessions that now he knows "how the African Americans you disrespected feel" after reports emerged he was humiliated in the Oval Office by President Donald Trump.

The New York Times reported this week that Trump lit into Sessions in May after he recused himself from the Russia investigation and the Department of Justice appointed Robert Mueller as special counsel for the probe.

"To Jeff Sessions, how does it feel to be dragged & humiliated? Now you know how the African Americans you disrespected feel," Waters wrote.

Democrats attacked Sessions' history on civil rights and criminal justice during his confirmation process, while Trump's transition team praised his "strong civil rights record."

According to the Times, a furious Trump called Sessions an "idiot" and said naming him attorney general was one of his worst decisions. Sessions reportedly told colleagues later it was the most demeaning episode of his professional life.

Waters added that not even Trump's own wife Melania could trust him and took a shot at Facebook over the report of Russian troll ad buys during the 2016 election.

Waters, known as "Auntie Maxine" to her progressive fans, has become one of the leading voices of the "Resistance" to the Trump administration. She has repeatedly called for Trump's impeachment since he took office.
