Sen. Tim Kaine (D., Va.) touted running mate Hillary Clinton’s stamina during a joint interview that aired Tuesday on Good Morning America, saying he has a hard time keeping up with her.
Clinton’s health has become an issue on the campaign trail, with opponent Donald Trump charging that she lacks the stamina to be president. Clinton’s campaign and its allies, however, have dismissed the questions about her physicality as mere conspiracy theories.
After ABC anchor David Muir read out Trump saying that Clinton did not look presidential during a recent rally, Kaine cut in.
"That’s an idiotic comment from Donald Trump," Kaine said. "I got added to this ticket about 11, 12 weeks, 100 days from the election. This great public servant has been on the field for 17 or 18 months. It’s hard to keep up with her. The day he tweeted out, ‘Hillary didn’t come to Mexico, does she have the energy,’ she was here in Ohio, talking to the American Legion."
Clinton was overcome with a coughing fit on the campaign trail Monday in Cleveland that left her straining to speak for several minutes, while Kaine clapped encouragingly behind her on the stage. The Clinton campaign angrily pushed back on mainstream reporting about the issue, with one spokesman telling an NBC reporter to "get a life."
