Brzezinski Rips Democrats for Hypocritical Comey Criticism: 'This Was a Great, Credible Man ... A Week Ago'

October 31, 2016

Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski ripped Democrats on Monday for hypocritically attacking FBI Director James Comey in the wake of the reopened investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server use.

Comey set off a political explosion on Friday after he sent a letter to Congress announcing that emails related to Clinton's server were found on Anthony Weiner's computer during a separate investigation into his sexting with an underage girl.

Weiner, a former congressman who resigned in 2011 because of a similar scandal, is the estranged husband of top Clinton aide Huma Abedin.

Democrats came down hard on Comey, with Clinton calling his letter "deeply troubling." Sen. Harry Reid (D., Nev.) accused him of breaking federal law.

Brzezinski, a supporter of Clinton, has nevertheless criticized the Democratic nominee harshly for her use of a private email server and wavering explanations for why she had one.

"This was a great, credible man with great integrity a week ago," she said of Comey. "So I don't really get that. What if there is something big? We're not going to say it was so outrageous. The bottom line is this all goes back to the server, something she shouldn't have done, something that was way more than a mistake. Way more."

Brzezinski called it a "self-inflicted, massive wound." Noting she has continually ripped Republicans for nominating a figure like Donald Trump, Brzezinski said Democrats had put up someone under FBI investigation.

"Here we are," she said. "Here we are."

The Washington Free Beacon compiled a montage of Democrats, including Reid, Sen. Tim Kaine (D., Va.), and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.), who gushed over Comey after he didn't recommend charges in July against Clinton, calling him a person of integrity and professionalism.

Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough also ripped media spin on behalf of Clinton over the weekend, in particular going after the idea that the FBI didn't actually know what was on the emails in question. The agency obtained a warrant to search emails related to the server investigation on Anthony Weiner's laptop, sources told NBC News on Sunday.

"Let me tell you something," Scarborough said. "If you really believe that, then please come to 30 Rock and get on my multi-colored unicorn at noon, and we will fly to Atlantis together. Listen. The FBI knows enough."

"Is it perhaps that Comey has integrity? Like the Democrats have said?" Brzezinski asked.
