The Oxford English Dictionary has named "selfie" the word of 2013. This is a triumph for the photography of self-reliance. Forever revolutionized by the advent of the face camera on smart phones, selfies have empowered the fairer sex to shed inhibitions, and clothing. For that we can all be grateful.
The individual deserving the most credit for the mainstreaming of selfies is comedian Syd Wilder and her how-to video, "How to Take a Slutty Selfie," which I have watched many times.
Syd clearly lays out the six-step process of how to accomplish "do-it-yourself racy photography."
Syd has mastered the state of mind required for a suggestive selfie: doe eyes.
The beauty of selfies is that they are spontaneous. They can happen anywhere. Mostly, though, and for obvious reasons, they seem restricted to places with mirrors, namely gyms and bathrooms.
Syd has mastered that part.
