Dancing With The Star's Sharna Burgess Has My Vote

April 29, 2014

After calming down from How I Met Your Mother’s infuriating ending, I had a  hole in my Monday television-viewing schedule for the first time in nine years. Thankfully, there’s another nine-year-old television show still churning out seasons for me to get worked up about in a whole different way.

Let me stop you before you start: yes, I watch Dancing With The Stars. Do yourself a favor and tune in to culture yourself before you start slinging snark my way.

To be honest, I haven’t tuned into DWTS since the season way back when Jerry Rice lost his second-straight championship to Jessica Simpson’s ex-brother in-law. Since I've left, the roster of professional dancers has shuffled, but I’m glad I'm back now or I would have missed Sharna Burgess.

Sharna is so special, I've decided to let you fine readers in on the secret.

Sharna stands out primarily because of her edge. Also, out of a cast of Americans and European dancers, she's Australian. No rules, just right.

Up until three seasons ago, Sharna was a contributing dancer before she was promoted to the main roster. This season is her best shot in three tries at winning since she's paired with Olympic ice dancing champion Charlie White. DWTS always feels fixed whenever they cast ice skaters and ex-pop bandmates, considering that these people dance professionally in much more grueling conditions than having to laugh awkwardly at Bruno Tonioli's double entendres. When ABC casts pro dancers, it robs us of the opportunity to point at J. Peterman lumbering through a tango. I guess White will have to do.

Sharna was not so lucky in  previous seasons. In her first season as a regular, producers handicapped her with Andy Dick, showing ABC will call anybody a "star"

You would think her next partner Keyshawn Johnson would have followed in the footsteps of fellow DTWS and Super Bowl champion Hines Ward and be a force on the dance floor. That was not the case as Sharna and Johnson were bounced in Week Two of their season since Key put in as much effort dancing as he did running routes.

Sharna's talent flourishes when she dances with the ladies anyways.

You know who has my vote.
