A Democratic state senator from Missouri called Sen. Claire McCaskill (D., Mo.) a "piece of shit" this week after McCaskill named her as an example of a "crazy Democrat."
"Claire McCaskill is desperate. She's a piece of shit," tweeted Maria Chappelle-Nadal, the state lawmaker. "Instead of knowing why people of color are angered by this administration, she chooses to put us & our families in harm's way. If my family is harmed, blame it on Claire McCaskill. She deserves to lose. She is not a Democrat."

Chapelle-Nadal's tweet came in response to an ad released by McCaskill's campaign. The radio ad features a man saying, "Claire's not one of those crazy Democrats." When asked who those Democrats are, McCaskill referenced Chapelle-Nadal, who was censured by the Missouri Senate last year for saying she hopes President Donald Trump is assassinated.
"The crazy Democrats are people who walk in restaurants and scream in elected officials' faces," McCaskill said. "The crazy Democrats are—we have a state senator here in Missouri that actually advocated for the assassination of President Trump. That's a crazy Democrat."
Chapelle-Nadal claimed that McCaskill's comments have put her family in danger.
"White Supremacy would place a person of color in physical danger. That's what Claire McCaskill has done to my family," she tweeted. "Shame on you, Dixie Claire. There are no more plantations. You are not Madam Massa."

McCaskill is running for reelection against Republican challenger Josh Hawley, the state attorney general. Hawley has a slight lead over McCaskill, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average.
