Liz Harrington Breaks Down Rand Paul's Road Ahead on Varney & Co

April 7, 2015

The Washington Free Beacon’s own Elizabeth Harrington appeared on Fox Business Network's Varney and Company to discuss Sen. Rand Paul’s (R., Ky.) announcement that he will run for president.

Harrington said Paul will not seek help from his father, Ron Paul, who has previously run for the White House. She also said that the younger Paul has a huge following with young people based on his stance on legalization of marijuana and gay rights.

The 2016 election is going to be one of the most competitive since 1980. Harrington said that she believes Paul will not lock up the Republican nomination.

Varney asked whether this far out from the nomination, if having such a large pool of candidates would beat each other up.

"That is the fear some people have, all the candidates beating each other up," Harrington said. "Some people thought Mitt Romney was bruised from that and we will have to wait and see. It is a matter of a good batting process for the general election."

When asked whom she supported, Harrington said that she could see that Ted Cruz and Rand Paul appeal to the anti-establishment crowd and that Scott Walker was more of the middle ground candidate.
