Hillary Clinton is once again at the center of romantic intrigue as she continues to navigate what she long hoped would be her post-White House years. The twice-failed presidential candidate is starting a podcast with Kara Swisher, the tech-adjacent media tycoon who happens to be a lesbian. The power couple will explore the midterm elections together on High Stakes, a limited series that debuts on Wednesday and will run through mid-November.
"I'm teaming up with Kara Swisher to dig into the issues that matter most before the country heads to the polls," Clinton said in an announcement video that showcased her legendary charisma. "The stakes have never been higher."
The New York Times reports that Swisher began courting Clinton at a soirée hosted by former Atlantic owner David Bradley at his Washington, D.C., mansion. In a spectacle akin to watching Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant square off in a high school gym, the journalist started "peppering the former secretary of state with questions about a variety of topics." Clinton's answers were "concise and intelligible."
Sparks flew.
It wasn't long before Clinton was filling in for Scott Galloway, Swisher's cohost on the Pivot podcast. They opened up to each other. Hillary was deft on the mic. Swisher champed at the bit, aching to take things to the next level. She was especially eager to show off her new partner like some magic bean whose hidden charms only she could unlock.
"There's a thing about the secretary, where it's like, 'Oh, if you knew her in the room, she's so funny,'" Swisher told the Times. "We're going to try to show you that room."
That does sound enticing, but only if the chemistry between them is authentic. Reports indicate that Swisher's new partnership with Hillary might be little more than a petty act of retaliation against an ex-lover, Nellie Bowles. A former Times reporter, Bowles is married to Bari Weiss, the CBS News boss who could soon be tapped to run CNN after its acquisition by Paramount Skydance. This is reportedly why Swisher intends to quit her role as a CNN contributor before the end of the year.
"Insiders note that Swisher may not be entirely thrilled by the prospect of working for her beloved ex girlfriend's new wife," the New York Post reported last month. "In fact, some say she's still pining for the charming Bowles and is not yet over the sting of losing out to Weiss. 'Kara's just jealous,' sniped one source."
In a sassy retort, Swisher accused the Post of trying to engineer a "lesbian cat fight" but did not deny that she was still obsessed with Bowles and consumed by romantic jealousy. "As exciting as girl on girl action is for you to gin up, I have been saying for a long time now that I would depart CNN if the deal goes through, due to my lack of confidence in the owners as decent media stewards & not whatever minion they decide to install," Swisher wrote. "Please try to keep up as hard as that is for you."
Whatever the case may be, we just hope that Hillary finds the happiness that she deserves.
