Holder: When Republicans Go Low, ‘We Kick Them’

October 10, 2018

Former Attorney General Eric Holder said over the weekend at a campaign event in Georgia that when Republicans go low, "we kick them."

The former Obama administration official, in comments first reported by NTK Network, reminded the crowd of when former First Lady Michelle Obama famously said that when Republicans "go low," Democrats "go high."

"No. When they go low, we kick them," Holder said.

The crowd erupted in applause and shouts of "fight, fight, fight."

"That is what this new Democratic Party is about," Holder said. "We're proud as hell to be Democrats."

Holder's comments are similar to ones made by former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton this week. Clinton said during an interview on Tuesday that Democrats can't be civil with Republicans until Democrats take back control of Congress.

"You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about," Clinton said. "That's why I believe, if we are fortunate enough to win back the House and/or the Senate, that's when civility can start again. But until then, the only thing the Republicans seem to recognize and respect is strength."

Holder also blasted Republicans and said it was time for Democrats to become as "tough" as them.

"They have used the power they have gotten for all the wrong things. They want to keep themselves in power. They want to cater to the special interests," Holder said. "It is time for us as Democrats to be as tough as they are, to be as dedicated as they are, to be as committed as they are."

Holder is considered a potential 2020 candidate and said in the past he is "seriously thinking" about a run. For now, Holder said his focus is on the 2018 midterms and several lawsuits challenging states for gerrymandering.
