Biden's Approval Rating Falls to Near Record Low, Poll Shows

April 19, 2023

Beleaguered by a weakening economy and rampant crime across the country, Americans' approval of President Joe Biden fell to 39 percent this month, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.

The 3-point drop since last month puts Biden's approval rating near its all-time low of 36 percent, which he hit in mid-2022 when gas prices skyrocketed, according to Reuters. Most respondents in the most recent poll cited the economy as the biggest problem in the country. One in 10 respondents said either crime or the environment is America's top problem.

Despite his steadily declining approval rates, the 80-year-old president has stated numerous times he intends to run for reelection, though he has yet to officially launch his campaign. Nearly half of Democrats don't want the octogenarian president to run in 2024, according to a March 27 Monmouth University poll. Even so, Biden is not expected to face any serious competition for his party's nomination.

FiveThirtyEight puts Biden's average approval at 43 percent, with 52 percent of Americans disapproving of the president.
