President Obama has long touted his commitment to the "unbreakable bond" between the United States and Israel—in this propaganda video from 2012, for example.
At the moment, however, his administration has severed the actual, physical bond connecting the two countries. The Federal Aviation Administration recently extended its ban on U.S. commercial flights to Israel, over the objections of Israeli officials.
A good sign that the ban is a bit over the top? Even Michael Bloomberg, who rarely encounters anything he doesn’t want to ban for safety reasons, is against it.
So is Senator Ted Cruz (R., Texas), who said the FAA ban on flights to Israel "suggest[s] that President Obama has just used a federal regulatory agency to launch an economic boycott on Israel, in order to try to force our ally to comply with his foreign-policy demands."
