Hey now, you're an all-star, get your game on, go play the latest episode of the Substandard! In this episode we devoted an inordinate amount of time to a discussion about the Classic Rock genre. Can certain songs from the 1990s now be counted as Classic Rock? I'd like to say the conversation touched on the struggles of aging and the ineluctable passage of time. Instead it basically devolved into a recounting of concerts past: I saw Gerardo perform "Rico Suave." Special Guest Mike Warren saw Smash Mouth—recently. And Sonny went to see Sponge!
Eventually we did get around to The Trip to Spain, the third installment in the Steve Coogan-Rob Brydon series, which is part impressions and part gastroporn. Filming kitchen prep in Italy (the second movie) and now Spain is pretty easy—the food is sumptuous. I dare them to take a trip to Germany!
We also rank our favorite road movies—who doesn't love Vacation? But there are a few surprises, particularly from Warren's list of 10. I imagine this episode will make for particularly fun (or meta?) listening while you take your own road trip on this Labor Day weekend. Enjoy.
