Former VP Dick Cheney Slams Iran Nuclear Deal

July 15, 2015

Former Vice President Dick Cheney joined the bipartisan voices against the nuclear deal with Iran. Cheney started his interview on Fox News’ Hannity by saying he was constantly shaking his head.

Cheney took issue with President Obama’s statement that because of the nuclear deal we have stopped the proliferation of nuclear weapons. Cheney called the statement a lie and explained that once Iran has a nuclear weapon, it is going to lead countries in the area to begin to arm themselves with nuclear weapons in order to protect themselves.

When it came to the one detail of the nuclear deal where the P5 +1 give 24 days notice to come in and inspect nuclear facilities and military bases, Cheney said that amount of time gives Iran enough time to hide or adapt whatever amount of uranium they are enriching. Cheney added that we do not fully know the scope of the Iranian nuclear program.

"Historically we have under estimated the nuclear efforts of others, and I think this is the situation where we don’t have the kind of access we need to be able to get in and know what is going on from a covert standpoint," Cheney said.

He added that Iran has had covert programs in the past, and he would not be surprised if Iran had nuclear facilities that were not known about.

"What the hell is the president thinking of when he thinks this is a great deal. I simply do not understand, I haven’t met anybody who can explain to me," Cheney said.

Cheney slammed Obama for the way he has treated allies of the United States. He pointed out that the president is dramatically reducing our troop numbers and that the president has not kept his word in protecting our allies. Cheney’s statement reflected that of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s who said the deal was a "historical mistake" and has "made the world a more dangerous place."
