The cast and crew of NBC's hit show "Parks and Rec" castigated the National Rifle Association on social media after the group used a clip from the show to praise its spokeswoman on Wednesday.

The NRA tweeted a GIF of Leslie Knope, the main character from "Parks and Rec" played by Amy Poehler, saying "thank you" to Dana Loesch, an NRA spokeswoman, after she appeared on a CNN town hall to defend gun rights in the wake of last week's tragic school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

The NRA's use of the gif drew derision from the show's actors and writers.

Nick Offerman—who plays Ron Swanson, a vocal libertarian on the show—criticized the NRA for using a "good-hearted show" to promote a "pro-slaughter agenda."

Michael Schur, a writer and producer on the show, asked the NRA to take down the GIF and echoed Offerman's "pro-slaughter" comment. Schur also shared the feelings of Poehler, who is not on Twitter.

Another actor from the show, Adam Scott, also lambasted the NRA, telling the organization to stay "away from Leslie Knope."
