Washington Free Beacon editor Matthew Continetti said Thursday that many Republicans are worried about President Donald Trump after former FBI Director James Comey's congressional testimony hours earlier.
Continetti appeared on a panel on MSNBC's "Meet The Press Daily," where host Chuck Todd asked him whether Trump helped himself on Thursday with the "Trump skeptics," who he described as "80 percent of the Republican conference in the U.S. Senate."
"I think that group of Republicans is worried, Chuck," Continetti said. "I think the president clearly is in a legal fight now, having his personal attorney out there answering questions about what's happening in Director Comey's testimony."
Continetti went on to say that Republicans have a political question to think about, citing Georgia's special congressional election later this month, which he said could send another "shockwave through the political system" if Democrat Jon Ossoff wins the seat.
"Remember on the legislative schedule we have health care," he said. " The Senate ... is still working on health care and they have a very short window, basically this summer, in order to get a health care bill. And the sense on Capitol Hill is if you don't get the health care bill passed, then Trump's legislative agenda is also seriously in jeopardy."
