President Donald Trump's oldest son Donald Trump Jr. wants to follow in his father's footsteps, telling an elite gun club in Hicksville, New York that he would be interested in running for office.
Trump, who took over the Trump Organization with his brother Eric after his father was elected president, spoke at F6 Labs gun club on Tuesday, Page Six reported.
"Don Jr. said he is interested in running for office, such as governor of New York, but the position of mayor of New York would be less interesting to him," a guest at the event told Page Six.
Trump cracked a few jokes during his speech, hinting that he missed the campaigning.
"Do I want to be behind the scenes and be a mouthpiece and fight back against crazy liberal media? Maybe," Trump Jr said. "Going back to doing deals is boring after 18 months. The politics bug bit me."
Other guests at the event included Nassau Police Commish Thomas Krumpter, vodka company owner Marty Silver, lawyer and lobbyist Brad Gerstman and restaurateur Chris Tsarsi.
According to Page Six, "Don Jr. said he would oppose anything that restricts the Second Amendment, and he supports state reciprocity laws, which allow guns to be carried from state to state with a permit."
Trump reportedly spends every weekend hunting in the Catskills with his family, and is known as an avid big game hunter.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is up for reelection in 2018.
