The attempt by Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein to launch a voter-initiated recount effort across Pennsylvania fell well short of its marker even in the state's most liberal strongholds of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, according to figures obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.
In Pittsburgh, Stein's team needed volunteers to submit one affidavit from each of the city's 1322 precincts in order to secure a full recount throughout the city. In each of these precincts, three voters must sign and submit the affidavit.
As of 3:30 p.m. on Monday, slightly more than 165 affidavits were submitted, an employee at the Allegheny County Elections Division told the Free Beacon. The effort for a full recount in Pittsburgh was short by 88 percent as the 4:30 p.m. deadline loomed.
In Philadelphia, 40 affidavits were submitted as of 3:30 p.m., according to an employee for a city commissioner. Stein needed affidavits from 1686 precincts in Philadelphia to launch a full recount in the city. Volunteers submitted just 2.3 percent of the amount needed to launch a full recount throughout the city as the deadline approached.
The Green Party also filed a lawsuit asking for a statewide recount in Pennsylvania on Monday. Stein has raised more than $6 million for recount efforts in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
