Hillary Clinton told Anderson Cooper Wednesday night that it was acceptable for the Clinton Foundation to take foreign donations while she was Secretary of State but it wouldn't be if she became president.
Clinton called into Anderson Cooper 360 to discuss the recent negative press regarding the Clinton Foundation and allegations of pay-for-pay links with her State Department.
Cooper asked Clinton, "Why was it OK for the Clinton Foundation to accept foreign donations when you were Secretary of State but it wouldn't be OK when you were president?"
Bill Clinton announced last Thursday that the Clinton Foundation would stop taking foreign donations and he would resign from the board if his wife wins the election in November.
"What we did when I was Secretary of State, as I said, went above and beyond anything that was required," Clinton said. "Obviously, if I am president, there will be some unique circumstances."
Cooper then questioned Clinton as to why those unique circumstances didn't apply to her while she was Secretary of State. Clinton responded by blasting a recent Associated Press report that showed more than half of her meetings with private parties consisted of Clinton Foundation donors.
"No, no, look, I know there is a lot of smoke and there is no fire," Clinton said. "This AP report, put it in context. It excludes nearly 2,000 meetings I had with world leaders ... It looked at a small portion of my time."
