Jill Stein, the presidential candidate of the far-left Green Party, compared Hillary Clinton to Donald Trump on Thursday while talking with Meet the Press Daily's Chuck Todd.
Many of Stein's positions are similar to those of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), the socialist whose campaign for the Democratic nomination enjoyed unexpected success. Stein even offered Sanders the Green Party nomination last week, leading to criticism from some Democrats that her efforts would siphon votes from Clinton in the general election.
Todd asked Stein if she would be comfortable with a Trump presidency, given the dampening effect her campaign will likely have on the Democratic vote. Stein rejected both candidates as "lethal choices" for the country.
"I'm not comfortable with Donald Trump as president and I'm not comfortable with Hillary Clinton as president and I'm most not comfortable with a political system that gives us two really lethal choices and says here, pick your weapon of self destruction," Stein said. "Because all the terrible things that Donald Trump says, Hillary Clinton, in fact, has done in various degrees."
Stein went on to list a number of areas where she said Clinton’s actions were similar to Trump’s rhetoric.
Stein is currently polling well behind Clinton and Trump. Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, the Libertarian Party candidate, also polls above Stein. Johnson and Stein need to reach at least 15 percent in the polls to participate in the national presidential debates.
