Morning Joe Goes Off on 'Completely Racist' Trump for Judge Remarks

June 6, 2016

MSNBC's Morning Joe unanimously blasted Donald Trump Monday for being "completely racist" about his remarks that a judge in the Trump University civil fraud case couldn't be fair because of his Mexican heritage.

Hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, whose Trump-boosting and friendly interviews raised eyebrows throughout the Republican primary season, scolded him and all Republicans who have endorsed his candidacy in an extended segment.

Prominent Republicans like Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R., Wis.) strongly condemned Trump's remarks as well, but they weren't spared the outrage on Monday.

"They are shocked and stunned," Brzezinski said sarcastically.

"My God! A meteor! Donald Trump said something that was racially offensive? Never saw that coming," Scarborough added.

Brzezinski took a poll of the table of whether Trump's remarks were racist.

"Yes," former George W. Bush adviser Nicolle Wallace said.

"It's completely racist," Scarborough said. "It's completely racist. Here you have a guy that is from Indiana, from Indiana. I think his family, if I'm not mistaken, had been in the country longer than Trump's grandmother."

Rev. Al Sharpton said, with a small smile, it was "absolutely, unequivocally racist."

Scarborough moaned that "my Republican Party" had gotten in line behind Trump, who has locked up the party's presidential nomination.

"They also are morally outraged, as they should be, to say that a judge whose parents came from Mexico ... and the stupidity of it is compounded by the fact that he's arguing something having to do with a personal case," panelist Mark Halperin said.

Scarborough and Brzezinski consistently congratulated themselves for making vaguely prescient remarks about Trump's success during the primary season, all while growing visibly angry at critics pointing out their chumminess with the candidate.

Now, with Trump tweeting insults at the show, those days seem long past. Other than Scarborough hitting Trump for his inability to denounce David Duke in a CNN interview in February, the relationship was quite amiable.

As if to clear the record yet again, Scarborough made an extended speech about how he had never endorsed the billionaire because of moments like these.

"They can't be morally outraged this week when they knew what he was doing last week," Scarborough said. "And by the way, I said it here on the TV box. And you can check it out on the TV box. I said, all the way back in December, I would never endorse Donald Trump so long as he supported banning 1.4 [billion] people from entering the last best hope for a dying world, the United States of America, simply because of the God they worship, simply because they were Muslim."

Yet, he couldn't help reminding everyone of his and Brzezinski's amazing prognostications.

"That has been out on the table while every Republican has endorsed this man. and I said, and I have stuck to it, I will never endorse Donald Trump so long as he supports a Muslim ban," he said. "I've said it clear. Now, listen. I predicted and Mika predicted that the guy was going to win the nomination. It pissed a lot of people off, because we were right and they were wrong."

Almost yelling, he said Trump was getting "worse, not better." He added Ryan's endorsement had put the House of Representatives in play for the Democrats.

"He endorses his racism against Muslims. Paul Ryan endorses his racism against Mexicans," Scarborough said. "Paul Ryan endorses his racism against Americans who may have, oh, I don't know, 1/16th Mexican blood in there, saying they're disqualified to be judges."
