The Washington Free Beacon’s Elizabeth Harrington appeared on Fox News Tuesday to discuss Hillary Clinton’s enthusiasm gap and Donald Trump’s delegate count in the run-up to the Republican National Convention.
Harrington said that Bernie Sanders’ fundraising success is calling attention to Clinton’s enthusiasm problem.
"Hillary basically writing off Wisconsin and turning to New York just shows the enthusiasm gap she's had this entire campaign," Harrington said.
She said that the Clinton campaign’s withdrawal from Wisconsin and focus on New York shows their frustration at Sanders’ success.
"I think they're really frustrated. You know, they're like ‘Oh, well I guess we’re not going to win Wisconsin. We'll just go to New York,’ and she’s sending Bill Clinton out there today," Harrington said.
Harrington said that Sanders’ success also throws light on Clinton’s weak position in the election and the lack of popular enthusiasm for her.
"They still are having to lower expectations because Bernie is still in this race," Harrington said. "He's out-raising money ... shows how weakened she's become in the race, and the enthusiasm among Democrats is not there for her."
As for the GOP race, Harrington said that Ted Cruz and John Kasich are vying to prevent Trump from getting the amount of super delegates necessary for the Republican nomination.
"Cruz, Kasich are both playing spoiler to prevent Trump from getting 1,237 so they can … try to turn the table at an open or contested convention," Harrington said. "That’s the strategy here."
She said that if Trump does not pull off a win in Wisconsin, he would most likely not get the requisite delegate number.
"If Trump wins tonight, pulls an upset, … he probably could get the 1,237. Otherwise, he probably cannot," Harrington said.
