The audience at John Kasich's New York town hall Wednesday applauded a woman named Nina de Blasio for not being related to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.
MSNBC host Chuck Todd introduced de Blasio to Kasich so that she could ask him a question, and he couldn't help but inquire further about her surname.
"Let's go to the questions. Governor, it's Nina de Blasio. Any relation?" Todd asked.
"No relation," she said.
"No relation," Todd said.
The entire audience began to laugh and applaud over the exchange and out of disapproval of the far-left mayor, who was elected in 2013.
"Well, there you go. I think we know the approval rating of Mayor de Blasio in this room, anyway," Todd said.
The mayor, who has close relations with Hillary Clinton and was her campaign manager when she ran for the Senate, endorsed Clinton for president and is considered to be one of the most liberal elected officials in the United States.
De Blasio has pursued aggressive liberal policies and angered voters with displays of antagonism toward the city's police department since entering office.
