Our favorite political communicator, Ian Sams, is leaving the White House to join the Kamala Harris campaign as "top spokesperson," the Washington Post reports.

In a move bound to reinforce her reputation for failure and incompetence, Harris is bringing back Sams, the architect of her disastrous 2020 primary campaign, and is reportedly considering him for the role of White House press secretary if she wins in November.

Sams was the national press secretary for Harris's primary campaign, which ended several weeks before the Iowa caucuses and was widely viewed as one of the most inept political campaigns in modern history. Sams routinely made news for all the wrong reasons—the hallmark of a terrible press secretary. He was universally mocked for posting one of the dumbest photoshop jobs of all time and for describing BuzzFeed News's coverage of Harris as "whiteness manifest" in a text exchange with then-editor Ben Smith, who replied: "Do you seriously not have real problems? This text makes me think you are totally, totally unready for an actual presidential campaign."

Another memorable Ian Sams moment for the 2020 campaign was the time Harris looked his way for guidance while struggling to answer a reporter's question about the Jussie Smollett hate crime hoax. He was not particularly helpful. Sams also attempted to shame the Washington Free Beacon for publishing an accurate report on Harris's ties to an ex-convict. He did not succeed.

Despite his shortcomings, Sams would go on to serve in a variety of roles in the Biden administration, including as a senior spokesman for the administration's failed response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Critics assailed the decision to hire Sams for this role, pointing to his previous comments suggesting that vaccines developed under former president Donald Trump could be "unsafe."

Most recently, Sams led the White House communications response to the investigation into President Joe Biden's mishandling of classified documents. He is best known in that role for arguing that Special Counsel Robert Hur's report, which stated the investigation "uncovered evidence that President Biden willfully retained and disclosed classified materials," did not uncover evidence that Biden willfully retained and disclosed classified materials.

Sams is often referred to as "the Forrest Gump of political failure" due to his incessant proximity to disaster. Before joining the Harris campaign in 2019, he was best known as the guy who modeled "Grillary Clinton" aprons on Hillary Clinton's campaign website during the 2016 campaign, which he served as a regional press secretary.

After Hillary's historic defeat, Sams went to work as communications director for Tom Perriello, a Democratic candidate for governor of Virginia. Perriello wound up losing the primary to Ralph Northam, whose political career was nearly derailed by a racist photo in his medical school yearbook. The Perriello campaign's inability to track down that photo, which would likely have won them the primary, will go down in history as one of the worst failures of opposition research of all time.

The Free Beacon would like to extend its sincere congratulations to Ian Sams on his new role with the Harris campaign. No one in the history of American politics has failed so far upward so fast, and now there is a reasonable chance that Sams will go from "Grillary Clinton" apron model to White House press secretary in less than a decade.

We're not even mad. That's amazing.
