Liberal journalists can't help themselves. They love it when Republicans die because they get to write stupid obituary headlines that (in their view, anyway) mock the dead guy for not being a Democrat or refusing to believe in "climate change" and other conspiracy theories.
"James M. Inhofe, Senator Who Denied Climate Change, Dies at 89." That's how the New York Times headlined its obituary for the longtime Republican senator from Oklahoma. Most other mainstream outlets published variations of the same headline. The Washington Post described the late GOP lawmaker as a "defense hawk who called human-caused climate change a 'hoax,'" which makes him seem pretty awesome as far as the Washington Free Beacon is concerned.
This happens all the time, and not just when a Republican dies. Mainstream journalists are also in the habit of writing absurdly fawning headlines about their friends. For example, the Times eulogized Cuban dictator Fidel Castro as a "revolutionary who defied [the] U.S." The Post mourned the loss of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in 2019, describing the terrorist scumbag as an "austere religious scholar."
Accordingly, the Free Beacon has decided to update our pre-written obituary headlines for prominent Democrats. We hope these revisions will more accurately reflect the style and tone of our mainstream peers. Enjoy!
