Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) had a ready retort when a reporter suggested Wednesday's $2 trillion coronavirus relief bill was insufficiently transparent.
"Do you work here?" he asked.
McConnell said the bill developed like any other, except it was "bipartisan from beginning to end," praising the Senate's pivot from a divisive impeachment proceeding to a unanimous vote on the rescue bill in the same year.
When another reporter complained Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) seemed shut out of the process, McConnell said he recognized they were "paid to find something wrong with almost everything."
