A new Quinnipiac poll has some bad news for President Donald J. Trump, but even worse news for the bumbling campaign of Beto O'Rourke, the heiress husband and failed Senate candidate who is running for president for reasons yet to be determined.
According to the poll, if the election were held today, Trump would lose the state of Pennsylvania in a head-to-head matchup against most of the top-performing Democratic candidates. But not against Beto. The polls shows Trump beating O'Rourke by 46 percent to 44 percent. The president is tied with Sen. Kamala Harris (D., Calif.) at 45 percent, and is behind South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), and former Vice President Joe Biden, who is leading Trump by double digits.
New head-to-head 2020 poll numbers in Pennsylvania via Quinnipiac:
Biden 53%, Trump 42%
Sanders 50%, Trump 43%
Warren 47%, Trump 44%
Buttigieg 45%, Trump 44%
Harris 45%, Trump 45%
Trump 46%, O'Rourke 44%— Ryan Struyk (@ryanstruyk) May 15, 2019
A recent poll of New Hampshire primary voters showed Beto approaching "statistically insignificant" territory, winning the support of just 2 percent of respondents. The Quinnipiac poll of Pennsylvania found a similar result; Beto is in seventh place at 2 percent, trailing Sen. Cory Booker (5 percent), Buttigieg (6 percent), Warren (8 percent), Harris (8 percent), Sanders (13 percent) and Biden (39 percent).
The bad news keeps piling up for Beto, who recently appeared on The View, and was once again forced to apologize for his white male privilege. He also apologized, again, for suggesting failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams as a potential running mate.
Things just aren't going his way. After being hailed as the Democratic Party savior who could "turn Texas blue," and receiving a relatively positive response to his campaign launch in March, the candidate has sputtered into irrelevancy. His campaign is "in flux," and poorly staffed. He's promised a "reboot" to get things back on track, and dispel the conventional wisdom that his presidential campaign is little more than a self-absorbed vanity project.
Let's check in and see how that's going...
