Trump: I Applaud the FBI Reopening Investigation into Clinton's Criminal Conduct

October 29, 2016

Donald Trump led off his rally in New Hampshire on Friday by addressing the breaking news that the FBI was reopening its investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server.

His fans roared as Trump announced FBI Director James Comey sent a letter announcing the discovery of new emails pertinent to its initial probe, in which Comey wrote he "agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation."

"They are reopening the case into her criminal and illegal conduct that threatens the security of the United States of America," Trump said. "Hillary Clinton's corruption is on a scale we've never seen before. We must not let her take her criminal scheme into the Oval Office."

While Comey said in July that Clinton was "extremely careless" with classified material and debunked her repeated claim that she never had classified information on her server, the agency did not recommend prosecution, and the case appeared to be closed.

"I have great respect for the fact that the FBI and the Department of Justice are now willing to have the courage to right the horrible mistake that they made," he said. "This was a grave miscarriage of justice that the American people fully understood, and it is everybody's help that it is going to be corrected."

He also joked that the rest of his remarks were going to be boring in comparison to the Clinton news.
