In Tuesday’s White House press briefing, ABC’s Jon Karl did not hold back when asking whether former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had signed the separation statement form when she stepped down as secretary of state.
Karl followed up by saying he was unable to get an answer from the State Department.
"I have no idea. I am sure Secretary Clinton and her team can get that answer for you," White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said.
Karl said he has not received any information from the Clinton camp. He also asked what the protocol would be for other cabinet secretaries when they leave and if they have to all sign some form of a separation statement.
While Earnest was unfamiliar with the exact protocol with each agency he did speak to how the White House handles separations.
"There is a lot of paperwork that is involved including signing some documentation related to your tenure here at the White House," Earnest said. "My understanding is that this applies to everyone who works at the White House."
The Associated Press also reported shortly after Karl’s question was asked that the State Department have no record of Hillary Clinton signing a statement that she had turned over all unclassified documents related to her work as Secretary of State. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki also said neither both Colin Powell nor Condoleezza Rice signed a statement.
