New York Press Asks Clinton if She Watched Yankees Game, How It Feels to Be Campaigning in the Bronx

April 7, 2016

Hillary Clinton did a press gaggle Thursday morning in The Bronx where she fielded questions about whether she had watched the Yankees game and how it felt to be campaigning in the borough again.

Much has been made in recent campaign coverage about the notoriously tough New York media market as that state's primary approaches, but one reporter didn't seem to fit the mold during questioning of Clinton and supporter and Bronx Borough president Ruben Diaz.

"Secretary Clinton, did you see the Yankee game last night?" an off-screen reporter asked. "I know you're a little busy."

"I didn't, but I read about it. I read about it this morning," Clinton said. "Was it as exciting and a blowout as it sounded?"

The Yankees, who play in The Bronx, routed the Houston Astros 16-6 for their first win of the season.

"It was pretty good," the reporter said. "How does it feel to be back campaigning in The Bronx?"

"It feels great," Clinton said. "You know, Ruben and I were just talking. When I first started running for the Senate, I came to the Bronx, and I came back many, many times and worked to support the great things that are going on in the Bronx. I am so proud of the progress that has been made."

Clinton served New York in the U.S. Senate for eight years. She was elected in 2000 and re-elected in 2006 before her failed bid for the presidency in 2008. She resigned the position when President Obama asked her to become his secretary of state, where she served from 2009 to 2013.

Clinton leads in New York polls over challenger Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), who routed her in Wisconsin on Tuesday and has captured six of the last seven states. Nevertheless, Clinton still holds a solid lead over Sanders in delegates and superdelegates.
