House Republicans Wrongly Accused of Chanting in Celebration of Obamacare Repeal Vote

May 4, 2017

House Democrats started singing the Steam song "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" after Republicans passed the American Health Care Act to replace Obamacare on Thursday afternoon.

The House voted to replace the Affordable Care Act in a narrow 217 to 213 vote. The bill, which was introduced on March 6, would eliminate Obamacare's taxes and individual and employer mandates. The GOP bill still keeps some Obamacare provisions intact, such as the protection of individuals with pre-existing conditions and allowing young adults to stay on their parents' plans until they reach the age of 26.

After House Republicans passed the legislation, Democrats broke out into a "nah, nah, nah, nah, hey, hey, hey, goodbye" chant. Democrats were apparently taunting Republicans with the chant.

Commenters on Twitter mistakenly attributed the chant to House Republicans and accused GOP members of insensitivity for celebrating the passage of the bill.

The American Health Care Act will now proceed to the Senate for consideration.
